Healthy-looking hair starts with a little attention to the scalp and a kinder approach to styling. These are our favourite low-effort habits.
Give your scalp some attention
A gentle scalp massage while shampooing, or with a nourishing hair oil before you wash, feels wonderfully relaxing and helps distribute product evenly. Use your fingertips rather than your nails, and keep the pressure light.
Using hair oil
- Warm a few drops between your palms.
- Massage into the scalp with gentle circles for a couple of minutes.
- Leave for 20 to 30 minutes, then shampoo out.
- Patch test first, and avoid use if you have a known sensitivity to any ingredient.
Heat-free waves
Heatless curlers let you style overnight without a hot tool. Simply wrap slightly damp or dry hair around the curler, secure it, and sleep. In the morning, unwrap gently and loosen with your fingers.
Everyday kindness
- Use a wide-tooth comb on wet hair.
- Sleep on a smooth satin pillowcase to reduce friction.
- Trim ends regularly.
- Keep heat tools on a lower setting when you do use them.
If you are worried about hair shedding or thinning, speak to a GP or a trichologist, who can advise on the right approach for you.
