Korean skincare is known for its focus on hydration, gentle textures and consistency. The famous ten-step routine can look intimidating, but the idea behind it is simple: thin layers, each with a purpose.
The golden rule: thinnest to thickest
Apply products in order of texture, from the lightest (toners, essences, serums) to the richest (creams). This helps each layer settle comfortably before the next.
A pared-back version
- Cleanse. One gentle cleanser is enough. Double cleanse in the evening if you wear makeup or sunscreen.
- Essence or toner. A hydrating layer to prepare the skin.
- Serum. Choose one targeted product rather than several at once.
- Moisturiser. Seal everything in.
- SPF (morning). The step that matters most.
Less is often more
Introduce new products one at a time, a week or two apart, so you can see how your skin responds. If something doesn't feel right, you'll know exactly which product to set aside.
Pat, don't rub
Press products into your skin with clean fingertips. It feels indulgent and helps you avoid unnecessary friction.
A beautiful routine is one you can keep. Start small, stay consistent and enjoy the process.
